Now, this is important: What comes before cancer, before arthritis, before blindness, before chronic itching? The one common denominator in them all is oxidative stress. It creates that imbalance in the system I always talk about as the cause of symptoms.
The National Institute of Health has scientific study after study showing how an excess of oxidative stress, or free radicals in the body, is the precursor of disease. And today, there isn’t a man, woman, dog or cat who isn’t living with that excess, based on the sheer volume of toxins we are all exposed to daily. The only way to head disease off at the pass is by managing the free radicals in you and your pet’s body.
What I’m about to reveal, tips the scales of oxidative stress excess in our favor!
Carbon60.
When I first heard about it, I was curious. I had to research to find out more about this fullerene called C60, for short. So, I went down the rabbit hole, and when I came up for air, I was very excited by what I’d learned. I knew this was something that could change the game for everyone, people and their animals, and I wanted to try it for myself and my family.
We’re going into the nitty gritty now, so buckle that seat belt and get ready for a roller coaster ride through the worlds of biology, chemistry and optimal health. And, we’ll throw in a bit of the 80’s for fans of big hair, shoulder pads and Van Halen. 
We’ll break down what C60 is, how it does what it does, and the kinds of astounding health breakthroughs it has created over the past 12 years.
Knowledge is power, so let’s get educated!
What Is Oxidative Stress?
Let’s go over briefly what oxidative stress actually is, so we have a baseline to learn about why C60 is so powerful.
It starts with the mitochondria, which is found in large numbers in most cells. The mitochondria are the instigators of energy production for the cell to be able to fulfill its biochemical duties. The result of the work the mitochondria does is the creation of these small molecules called ATP, or adenosine triphosphate.
- The ATP molecule is the site where cellular level energy is stored that can be easily transferable for use in our and our pets’ bodies to function.
- The mitochondria also produces harmful, toxic compounds called reactive oxygen species (ROS), or free radicals during this process.
- Reactive oxygen species are unstable molecules that contain oxygen and that easily reacts with other molecules in a cell. A build up of reactive oxygen species in cells cause damage to DNA, RNA, and proteins, and may even cause cell death.
Controlling how much oxidative stress is generated and managing what is created is the key to heading off disease, aging and the magic beans of feeling great.
You can envision this with senior pets, yes, but also imagine that if you started managing the oxidative stress in a young puppy or kitten, that dog or cat has a much better chance of staying healthy longer, aging more slowly and living longer. Because, while a young animal’s vital force is generally strong, it is the build up of oxidative stress over time that causes the imbalance between the amount of oxidative stress vs. the body’s ability to neutralize it that leads to aging and illness.
In that earlier post, I shared that it can be caused by so many things that are a part of everyday life today:
- UV rays from the sun
- ionizing radiations from things like microwaves from an oven
- X rays and gamma rays from radioactive elements
- pollutants
- heavy metals
- drugs
- toxins in the air they breathe
- the food they eat
- the water they drink
- rolling on unmarked, pesticide-treated grass
- stress in their lives
So, what is C60?
…and what makes it so special that it can help ward off disease, slow aging and even reverse some conditions? We have to go back to the mid-80’s for that. So, tease that hair, pop on those shoulder pads and let’s go!
Robert, Harold & Richard
This is a tale of three scientists – Robert Curl, Harold Kroto, and Richard Smalley – who, in 1985, conducted a now famous series of experiments over 11 days at Rice University in Houston, Texas. There, they discovered several new configurations of the carbon molecule. One of them was Carbon60, one of the most stable of carbon configurations and one that opened the door for spectacular advancements in the fields of civil engineering, building construction, aircraft, automobiles, microsurgery and nano surgery.
The Carbon60 molecule was constructed like a spherical cage, open in the middle, very much like the geodesic dome created by designer/inventor, Buckminster Fuller. So, they named it a fullerene in honor and, over time, it was given the nicknames bucky balls, Buckminster Fullerenes…you get the picture (scientists do have a sense of humor! 
).
Granny Did It!
But, it wasn’t until 2010 or 11, when two scientists were chosen to join a think tank to discover a replacement for the refrigerant called R22, which for decades powered the cooling ability of refrigerators, AC’s and the like, that the health benefits of C60 were discovered.
Those scientists were Max Champie and longtime NASA engineer/scientist, Phil Catalano. They met during their work together in that think tank and got to talking about ways to make this replacement of the R22 refrigerant move more easily through the system, and started looking at carbon nano particles to do it.
Around that time, a scientist in Spain named Fathi Moussa was experimenting with C60 on rats. His findings showed the rats could live 1.5 – 3 times their normal lifespan when taking the C60. Max found these studies and filed them away, since it didn’t have bearing on his work looking for a replacement refrigerant.
Then, he got a call from his son, who told Max that his 88 year old mother had early stage Alzheimer’s. She was forgetting and losing things and he was getting concerned. Max remembered Moussa’s study, pulled it out and within 30 days, he was on a plane with a beta C60 product to try on his mom.
- The two of them started on a protocol, together.
- Within 90 days, his mother took her driver’s test and got her license.
- Within 120 days, she threw away her reading glasses, went back and told the DMV she wanted to retake her driver’s test without glasses for the first time since she was 42, and passed!
- A few years later, at 94, she was driving around Denver in her silver Smart car with the license plate Granny!
That success began a process of research under the name Live Longer Labs, created by Max and Phil Catalano, to dive deeper into the health benefits of C60. They sourced the most pristine Carbon 60 at the highest possible 99.9% purity, suspending it in cold-pressed organic olive oil and were giving it to friends and family who’d started knocking at Max’s door.
- Max’s gym friend, Bob, avoided double hip replacement when C60 resolved his hip issues.
- Dr. Loretta Ivory got her life back when C60 significantly improved her eyesight due to macular degeneration.
As word of more successes grew, more people came knocking. In 2016, they had about 20,000 people purchasing C60, which was now also being offered suspended in organic avocado oil and organic coconut oil.

This BDNF protein is important in memory and learning, and it can be found in areas of the brain responsible for eating, drinking, and body weight. How Does C60 Work?
You’ve learned what C60 is and what it did for Max’s mom in reversing her Alzheimer’s, Bob in reversing his hip degeneration and Dr. Ivory in reversing her macular degeneration. Let’s take a look at how it did that, and what it can do for you and your fur babes.
We’re stepping back into the 80’s again, briefly, to that iconic video game that took the world by storm, Pac-Man. Remember that little yellow guy, eating up dots through a maze, like a vacuum cleaner on steroids? If you can picture that, you can understand how C60 eats up or neutralizes oxidative stress in the body.
C60 is the most effective neutralizer of free radicals we’ve ever known. It eats up oxidative stress 172 times better than Vitamin C or E, two of our biggest antioxidants. Pretty cool, right?
So, if you’ve learned that the body in today’s world – yours or your pet’s – is being bombarded with toxins, stuff that just doesn’t belong in the body all day long, and that the body’s response to that is to create oxidative stress, it’s no surprise the balance of free radicals to antioxidants is out of whack. There’s no way the body can keep up with nuking the oxidative stress with just the antioxidants it creates. It needs help. That’s why it’s recommended to us to take antioxidants like Vitamin C, E, to eat foods high in antioxidants like berries.
But. None of these can hold a candle to the Atlean work C60 can do.
So, what happens when you give your dog or cat C60 or take it yourself? Once the C60 has neutralized enough oxidative stress to restore the balance between free radicals and antioxidants, it then starts reversing things. This is where it gets really interesting.
What has C60 cured in animals?
Food allergies, skin allergies, arthritis, growths, heart problems…the list goes on. The premise is the same for people and pets. Once the oxidative stress is under control, the body sets about doing what it was designed to do; heal itself.
- It begins with the issues it feels are the most important to survival. So, if you’re giving your pet C60 for arthritis in his back legs, the body may decide that the toxicity levels of metals in his body are more important to clear first and get to the arthritis in the order the body deems important.
- The great thing about dogs and cats, though, is you tend to see results faster than with people because animals metabolisms are faster.
