As a pet parent, what do you struggle with most?
What common pet health issues are you facing right now?
The photo above is of pet mom, Sylvia, and client, Ruby, an adorable, young Havanese. Sylvia proactively came to me to get Ruby on a healthier track while she was still young, so she’d grow older as a healthy dog and Sylvia wouldn’t continuously be running to the vet.
For National Pet Wellness Month in October, this is what it’s all about; getting your pet on a healthier track, proactively, if possible, so they grow old gracefully, healthfully and you aren’t always running to the vet.
Yet, I know there are different issues you’re grappling with. Things happen, pets get sick or develop conditions. If you put your biggest challenge in the Comments below, I’ll address them here throughout the month, with natural solutions or options.
One thing that’s been interesting to me for awhile now is Hormone Health. Spaying and neutering at a very young age has its repercussions. What exactly are they and how can we mitigate them if we choose to spay or neuter? Why are we choosing spay or neuter? Maybe we’re adopting and have no choice, since the shelter or rescue automatically does it before releasing the animal. If we have a choice, let’s look into the perspectives about spay and neuter. Are they accurate today? Is there more we need to know?
I’ll be looking deeper into this and following up with interviews on my The Pet Health Coach podcast with experts in this field.
As pet parents, we need to be informed with the latest research for optimal health, long-term, for our animals.
This is a month to celebrate our pets, look at challenges and find do-no-harm ways to improve or cure them and create that vibrant, good health and longevity for our fur babies we all want.
I look forward to reading your suggestions for topics for me to cover!
Let’s go!
To their best health, ever!

Please do, Randi, thank you. If there’s a popular challenge that comes up in your group for pet parents you’d like to share here, I can cover it during October. My mission is to empower pet parents around the world to know options and how to address health issues naturally whenever possible (which is oftentimes). Thank you and please reach out with a link when you do.
I never heard of Fibrocartilaginous Embolism (FCE) Also called (Spinal Cord Stroke), until last Tuesday when my 5-year old dog stumbled on his front leg when simply walking. He quickly lost all balance and coordination on all four legs??? Took him to a Veterinary Specialty Hospital, they took an MRI and diagnosed him with FCE.
There is no surgery or medication to treat FCE, merely aggressive therapy, good nutrition high in protein and a lot of rest. Neurologist was hopeful he’ll make a complete recovery in 2-6 months. We brought him home from the hospital Friday when he couldn’t walk or move while sleeping without human assistance. He’s received holistic treatments, messages, and stretching exercises and gets three small nutritious meals of small batch wish fresh fruits, lightly steamed vegetables, shredded oxtail beef and homemade bone broth daily. He also gets short visits from the kids next door, which has also proven to be helpful. He initiated play and picked up a stuffed puppy to take to one of the kids last night!
All of the above is helping him recover. He is extremely determined to not settle for this. He pushes himself in ways I’d never ask, we stand aside and let him make his own choices (we are always close by to help when needed). 1-week after he first stumbled and our boy is now walking awkwardly on his own, standing up to eat and drink on his own, from 1-minute to 2-minutes in just 1 1/2 days!

Amazing, Sherry! I am so so happy to hear he’s recovering faster it seems than the vets thought. Good nutrition, love, hands on energy work (massage), stretching and the kids next door are great ways to support his body to heal and keep his mind engaged and happy. I love this! Thank you for sharing. I’m going to look into and maybe I’ll cover this more in depth during this month.
My senior dog has had yeast issues recently. I prefer to treat historically rather than round after round of antibiotics that destroy the immune system. I feed her human grade food, a good fish oil, probiotics, and she gets Fulvic acid mineral drops in her food. Is there a more natural way to prevent yeast in the future?
Hi Cathleen – You’re doing great; and kudos to you for being a proactive pet mom choosing a more natural route! There are other things I’d recommend, yes. A good pre/pro/postbiotic that adds extra oomph – look for one that contains the following bacteria – Bacillus coagulans
Bacillus subtilus; a good mushroom product that additionally supports the immune system; CocoTherapy’s MCT oil with Caprylic Acid, a good yeast fighter; C60, a powerful oxidative stress killer. See me for links if you’d like.
